Invicta FC 13: To Piggyback with UFC 189

Invicta FC plans to tag along again on another major UFC fight weekend.
After staging its 11th event one day prior to tonight’s UFC 184, the all-female promotion announced Friday that Invicta FC 13 will take place July 10 in Las Vegas, which falls one day prior to UFC 189 on July 11.
The UFC pay-per-view card, which takes place at Las Vegas’ MGM Grand Garden Arena, serves as the main attraction to the promotion’s International Fight Week. A venue for Invicta FC 13 was not announced.
Invicta FC President Shannon Knapp said the card will be headlined by featherweight champ Cristiane Justino (13-1), who defended her title in dominant fashion at Invicta 11 with a 46-second TKO of Charmaine Tweet (6-5).
Although Knapp did not specify the weight class at which Santos will fight, her manager, George Prajin, told MMAjunkie it will be at 145 pounds, “unless miraculously we get offered a 140-pound catchweight fight against Ronda (Rousey).”
Rousey, of course, is the UFC’s champion, but the promotion’s executives are eyeing a fight between the dominant fighters at some point in the future. UFC Chairman and CEO Lorenzo Fertitta told ESPN that the UFC was involved in extending Justino’s contract with Invicta, which pays her fight purses. Justino simply said the UFC “helped” put together her appearance against Tweet.
Justino and her manager have repeatedly called for a 140-pound catchweight fight with Rousey, who’s said “Cyborg” needs to drop to bantamweight in order to make the matchup a reality.
