Boxing: Fury Tame Hammer - Eubank Jnr Wins!
Monday, 2 March 2015 | Carl
TYSON FURY solidified his position as WBO mandatory heavyweight contender to Wladimir Klitschko with a dominant performance against Hamburg-based Romanian Christian Hammer at London’s O2. Fury switched stance throughout, using his greater speed and mobility to control the bout, gradually upping the pressure. Hammer was ultimately pulled out by his compassionate corner at the end of the eighth round, prompting Fury to launch into song and reaffirm his desire to face Klitschko.
Also on the show, Chris Eubank Jnr happily engaged in a war of attrition with WBA Interim middleweight king Dmitry Chudinov, before boxing more in the later stages and picking his heavy shots. Chudinov was game but limited and lacked the punch to keep Eubank Jnr off; he was also hampered by two cuts, one suffered early in the contest. Eubank Jnr finally forced the stoppage at 2-11 of the 12th and final round to take the title.
Meanwhile, British and Commonwealth super-featherweight ruler Liam Walsh once again defeated Joe Murray but, after a decision victory in 2013 he overpowered and halted the Mancunian in five.
There were also early victories for Bradley Skeete, Lewis Pettitt and Frank Buglioni.
